Bid-signing night has many anxious moments, but none quite so hard on the potential pledge as that of finally receiving his bids and making a deci- sion. Above, Steve Hipfel accepts the envelope containing his. After signing a bid, the new pledge is rushed from the Great Hall and heaved into a mass of bodies, whose outstretched hands he rides to the bottom of the Union steps. This mass is actually the fraternities, welcoming their pledges in a truly dis- tinct manner.
