Moving in was . . . well A new year! Expectations high ideals , and grand illusions . All are the elements that make a new year . The hussies and hassles of moving are soon forgotten in the high energy of the new school year. New students and freshmen had a chance to get acquainted with college life during freshman orientation. Administrators got their first chance to serve the students . . , at the picnic . For veteran students they soon learned dorm rooms are still shrinking and head residents still don ' t allow pets . j Everything has its place. It just takes awhile to find it. Thornton Patberg, vice president of Student Affairs serves up the punch at the freshman picnic contrary to a Crescent report to the contrary .

Icebreaker, Let ' s Get Acquainted well received After all the moving in was over it was time to get out and get the social feet wet. The place was the Morton Hall parking lot the sound unmistakenly loud. With the Waters Brothers Band providing the music it took the crowd about half the dance to get warmed up but once they did they were still going long after the Water Brothers had left for home. The next night, the scene shifted indoor to the basement of the Indian. Over 2000 student s jammed the Union to see the Boston street singer Stephen Baird or watch one of several movies or just recreate in the games room. Stephen Baird serenades the capacity crowd in the Indian. Baird was the best attended program that the Student Union Board programmed all year.
