9 judge John K. Thompson. HE history of Judge John K. Thompson was intimately associated with that of Nloores Hill College, as he held some official connection with the institution almost from the time it was first established. For more than a third of a century he was an active and influential member of the Board of Trusteesg and at the time of his death, Nlarch 13, 1898, he was the president of the board. In his death, therefore, the college has sustained a great loss, and the cause of Christian education, an able and earnest advocate. Mr. Thompson was one of God's noblemen -a man of keen intellect, a warm heart, and a good soul. Modest and gentle as a woman, he was nevertheless a man of strong convictions and of unflinching integrity, and his great heart went out in loving sympathy with everything that is pure and good. While never making, so far as l know, a public profession of Christianity, he was a firm believer in the Christian religion, and was a warm and liberal supporter of the church. He had an intelligent faith in God as the supreme ruler of the universe, and what is infinitely better than an empty profession, he had lived and exemplified the principles of the Christian religion in his every-day life. As a judge of law Mr. Thompson had few superiors in southern Indiana. ln his chosen profession, he was recognized as the soul of honor by his associates at the bar. We loved him for his virtues-for his noble qualities of mind and heart, and while stunned by the blow which has fallen so suddenly upon us, we find comfort in the thought that the Lord Omnipotent reignethg and that, though the workmen may fall, Cod will take care of his own cause.
