search for truth and knowledge has ever been the highest expression of man's basic worth. In this activity alone can he attain freedom, equality and common grounds of brotherhood. In these turbulent times, edu- cation stands as a beacon in the darkness of ignor- ance and intolerance, guiding man to his proper place as a citizen of the world. The influx of stu- dentsto the Universities sounds a keynote of op- timism for the future, which man must make secure, guaranteeing for himself and his posterity a free and peaceful world. Education is one of the powerful forces which can be harnessed to this end. So with al the hope and belief of John Henry Newman in the strength and stature of the edu- cated man, we say ,... the search for truth . . . has its ebbs and flows, it is pleas- ant to be living in a time when the tide is coming in.
