The World Power Series Sidney Hook Professor Sidney Hook is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution on B War, Revolution and Peace, Stanford, Califor- : nia. He is also Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at New York University. Hook received his doctorate in philosophy from Columbia University. He has received three Guggenheim Fellowships for research in German, Russian, and European philosophy. In addition to his extensive research, Professor Hook has produced numerous publications. His most recent books are Education and the Taming of Power, Pragmatism and the Tragic Sense of Life, and Revolutions, Reform and Social Justice. Brian M. Jenkins Brian Jenkins is currently involved in direct- ing research on international terrorism and is also a consultant on nuclear terrorism to the Nu- clear Regulatory Commission. Jenkins earned a B.5. in fine arts and a mas- ter's degree in history from U.C.L.A. He also obtained a Fulbright Fellowship and studied history of Anti-government conspiracies at the University of San Carlos, Guatemala. He served in the Armed Forces as a Green Beret in the Dominican Republic and as a Captain in the Fifth Special Forces Group in Vie- tnam. He left Vietnam to earn his Ph.D in history; he became a Rand consultant and returned to Vietnam as a civilian member of the Long Range Planning Task Group in Saigon. Jenkins became an em- ployee at Rand in 1972 and has published reports and articles in numerous publi- cations. He is the author of International Terrorism: A New Mode of Conflict and Britain and the War for the Union.

Bella Abzug Bella Abzug received a law degree from Columbia University and practiced law in New York City from 1944 until 1970. Ms. Abzug is a member of the MNational Urban League, Women's Prison Association, the National Organization for Women, National Women's Politi- cal Caucus and the Ameri- can Civil Liberties Union. Abzug was elected as representative from New York in the 92nd and 93rd Congress. She is the au- thor of Bella! Ms. Abzug Goes fo Washington. BAYARD RUSTIN Bayard Rustin participated in the first Freedom Ride in 1947. The Journey of Reconciliation designed to test enforcement of the 1946 Iren Morgan Case outlawing discrimi- nation in interstate travel. From 1941-1953, Mr. Rustin served as Race Relations Secretary of the Fellowship of Reconcilia- tion, during which he was the first field secretary to the Congress of Racial Equality, aided Japanese- Americans, Chairman of the Free India Committee. In 1953 he was executive secretary of War Resis- ter's League. In 1955 assisted Dr. Martin Luther King in the boycott, and for seven years served as spe- cial assistant to Dr. King. Mr. Rustin has been arrested 24 times in the struggle for civil rights. He is author of Down The Line, and Stratigies For Freedom: The Changing Patterns Of Black Pro- test. In 1975 he helped to organize Black Americans to support Isreal Committee. Mr. Bayard Rustin is Currently president of the A. Phil- lip Randolph Institute.

MNoam Chomsky Noam Chomsky attended the University of Pennsylvania where he studied linguistics, philosophy and mathematics. He received his Ph.D from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959 and has taught modern languages and linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Chomsky has also lectured in various other universities in several countries. In addition to his extensive knowledge of linguistics, Chomsky is also known for his political views and his writings. His book American Power and the New Mandarins reflects his strong opposition to American involvement in Vietnam. 26
