To the Class of 1968: It is with special pleasure that ! extend best wishes and congratulations to the Class of 1969, the first senior class of my tenure as President of the University. College students today have been characterized as belong- ing to the concerned generation. This generation is con- cerned with slums, racial discrimination, war and all social and political injustice. It is concerned about the impersonaliza- tion of life in our culture and the gap between moral, intellec- tual and esthetic ideals and daily practice. Members of the Class of 1869 will have an opportunity in their life's work to do something about these concerns. It is my earnest hope that the Class of 1969 will have fewer of these same concerns owing to the progress made by the endeavors of the Class of 1969. There is an opportunity as well as an obligation for the college educated person to assume positions of leadership and responsibility in developing a better society. I have confi- dence that members of the Class of 1969 from the University of Delaware will be prominent in these efforts, G Fnbend

Dark ages spawn the Renaissance, Knowledge illuminates the handwriting on the walls, Impartial hands, weeks of deliberation precede admission. Time sprinkles discontinuously along the mall, A new uncertainty dominates . . . waits, Inspiration rumbles in the artesian deep. Brash confederates confront bristling potentates.
