TO THE OUTSTANDING CLASS OF 1962: During your undergraduate years your alma mater should have brought about growth in you in at least three directions: First, you should have grown in knowledge, especially within your chosen field of concentration; Secondly, you should be graduating as young men and women of con- siderable culture as compared with your backgrounds upon entering as freshmen; Thirdly, you should have developed into adult citizens with a greater-than- usual sense of responsibility to work for the common good and to participate in worthwhile and necessary civic activities. Undoubtedly all members of the Class of 1962, an outstanding class in my estimation, have grown in these three directions. I hope you have, con- sidering your abilities and the University's resources, developed beyond what you would have in any other institution of higher learning. This has been, I trust, the large aspiration of your teachers. Measure of its accomplishment will not be entirely completed upon your graduation. It will be further evi- denced in your working lives and accomplishments. Your University will watch with interest and encouragement how well you and it have succeeded. With every best wish, John A.
