PERKINS PRESIDENT TO THE OUTSTANDING CLASS OF 1962: During your undergraduate years your alma mater should have brought about growth in you in at least three directions: First, you should have grown in knowledge, especially within your chosen field of concentration; Secondly, you should be graduating as young men and women of con- siderable culture as compared with your backgrounds upon entering as freshmen; Thirdly, you should have developed into adult citizens with a greater-than- usual sense of responsibility to work for the common good and to participate in worthwhile and necessary civic activities. Undoubtedly all members of the Class of 1962, an outstanding class in my estimation, have grown in these three directions. I hope you have, con- sidering your abilities and the University's resources, developed beyond what you would have in any other institution of higher learning. This has been, I trust, the large aspiration of your teachers. Measure of its accomplishment will not be entirely completed upon your graduation. It will be further evi- denced in your working lives and accomplishments. Your University will watch with interest and encouragement how well you and it have succeeded. With every best wish, John A. ROW 2: Sharon Hunsicker, Betsy Struyk, Jaci Diemicke. The 1962 BLUE HEN has undergone a series of important changes. The size, paper, ink, publishing and photography have been improved. All of these mod- ifications were brought about through the efforts of a spirited staff. Betsy Struyk, who initiated many of these changes, was admirably guided by Mr. James Gervan, advisor, and assisted by Sharon Hun- sicker, whose creativity sparked the de- sign of these pages. Jaci Diemiche cre- ated the unusual cover and divider pages. With the help of Marv Sloin, Tony Lotz, Buddy Adlar and Nancy Schafer, the staff was able to portray life at Delaware through pictures. Marv also managed financial matters with the able assistance of Shelly Weintraub and Don Shore. Through the efforts of these and many other people, a new BLUE HEN has been created which it is hoped better captures your memories of life at Dela- ware. 55 O R WS M T R ; The deadline approaches. S 148 This school year has been one of the most successful and re- warding periods for the APES at the University in recent years. It was marked by improvements to the house both externally and internally and bolstered by the largest membership in its history. The spirit of brotherhood and cooperation that reigns at Alpha Ep- silon Pi has produced many enjoyable moments for the brothers as they worked toward the betterment of their school and fraternity. As usual, the APES were found participating in nearly every campus club, organization, and activity at Delaware. Their con- tributions to leadership on campus included the President of the I. F. C., the Editor-in-Chief, Business Manager, and Sports Editor of the Review, Business Manager of the Blue Hen, Vice-President of the Senior Class, Treasurer of the Student Center, President, Vice-President, and Treasurer of Hillel, as well as Offices of other campus clubs. Three brothers are members of the national honorary leadership fraternity ODK. Socially, AEPi's program ranks near the top, the season being highlighted by Buccanneer's Brawl, the Beatnik Party, and AEPI Weekend. Brothers are active participants in intramural sports and planned cultural events. AEPi on Delawares campus continues to maintain its outstanding scholastic tradition, ranking second in a field of 76 chapters throughout the country. As AEPi continues to grow, so grow its activities, goals and ef- forts in providing the brotherhood with broad perspectives through a well-rounded college life. -r e ALPHA EPSILON PI ROW 1: F. Kappa Alpha's brothers enjoy a well-rounded fraternity life, including scho- lastic, social, athletic and cultural programs. We take pride in our participation in campus activities and consider them an integral part of our college education. Kappa Alpha has enjoyed a full social season including the Freshman Women's Open House, 1. F. C. Weekend, the Christmas Party, Rushing functions and house parties. The climax of the social season was the Old South Ball on KA Weekend. We give much credit to our fine officers and our advisor, Dr. E. Vernon Lewis, who has guided us through the year. With the leadership of these men and the strong fraternity spirit of Kappa Alpha, we have had a very successful year. ROW 1: D. DellaPorta, E. Martinelli, R. Mercer, T. Evans, N. Abello, R. We endeavor to pass from our chapter halls men of well rounded education and character better able to understand their fellow citizens as well as work with them. Representatives of our fraternity show these traits as they participate in frater- nity events, Varsity and intramural ath- Jetics, campus politics and service or- ganizations, and dormitory as well as honorary positions. One such program was the Exchange of men between the University of Mississippi Sigma Nu Chapter, and the men from Delta Kappa. On May 13, the brothers will be traveling to Ferris School for Boys to participate and supervise a Sports Day. Another significant addition 1s the creation of the Recognition Award, whereby some underclassman is recognized for his behind the scenes contri- butions to the chapter. It 1s the realization of each and every brother, that the perpetua- tion of Sigma Nu ideals in the years to come depends on the new Pledges, and the brothers are quite proud of the Pledge Class which in a short time will join the ranks of the thousands sharing the Five-Armed Star of the Sigma Nu. 161 e e T e TSR . Among the objectives are four main points through which we feel we are better able to obtain a well rounded education. These four are scholarship, campus activities, athletics and social life. The advantages of Sig Ep are many and varied including such items as an advantageous location, in-house dining facilities, and a permanent house mother. To be a part of Sig Ep activities is to be a part of all these in a brotherhood with tremendous spirit and pride. 164 N ROW 1: N. Neide, F. Di- Motta, J. Seibert, J. Greco, T. Schonauer, D. Coury. ;I Despite many domestic difficulties this year, Theta Chi has once again dem- onstrated the power of brotherhood. Fraternal spirit combined with the aid of many outstanding alumni has re-established Theta Chi as a leading campus fra- ternity. Thanks to our hard-working scholarship chairman, Theta Chi's index for this past semester was well above the all men's index. Considering our nomadic position for the first half of the semester, this is quite a feat. Also, we have par- ticipated in a list of campus activities ranging from varsity sports to good will delegations to such neighboring campuses as Rutgers. These are just a few of the things that make a Theta Chi proud of his fraternity. There is also a less serious side to brotherhood. This involves having fun to- r gether. In spite of the serious nature of our organization, Theta Chi has man- aged to come out of its shell to add a spice of gaiety to the campus. Our social cal- endar boasts of such events as the annual Bowery Ball and the fraternity weekend. i This spirit of brotherhood that prevails the year round is, and always has been, , ' laying the groundwork for the future generations of Theta Chis. 167 1 o A TR f 5., 8 sk st il ..ia.w.ga,..wg;.. . . v DORMITORIES e A e R e T B s ........................... HAFNER To the casual reader a yearbook is often simply an album of pictures with accompanying identi- fications and enough written text to fill up the re- maining holes on the pages. Merely ink on paper . . . though nice to own and enjoy. But to the staff and the adviser the yearbook means much more. For yearbook work comprises a multitude of details: Layout, Art, Photography, Copy, Typography, Covers and Binding not to mention the small detail of money-raising. Highly technical and often confusing, these details are at the very least time-consuming and a source of anxiety to a staff unless the publishers repre- sentative is company-trained to give needed help and suggestions. All representatives for Wm. J. Keller Inc. are skilled in the many facets of yearbook work, hav- ing at their finger-tips the answers to yearbook problems as well as a multitude of ideas for new graphic arts special effects, to enable the staff to produce a yearbook that is different and attractive. Your Keller salesman is more than a technical ad- viser, he is a clearing-house of yearbook ideas. Wm. J. Keller Inc.
