Most yearbooks are dedicated to those who have passed on or to those who are leaving the scene; however, this year we are deviating from the traditional paths and dedicating our book to an unsung hero who is still very active in campus life. It is with the most sincere appreciation that we dedicate this book to Mr. Bailey, our untiring and all too often, unrecognized advisor. Robeson Bailey was born in 1906 in Chicago, Illinois, but has spent most of his life in New England. He attended Hill School in Pennsylvania and graduated from Harvard in 1929 with an AB Degree in English. He has spent virtually his working lifetime in higher education, teaching English and creative writing. He taught for ten years at Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges simultaneously, ten years at Smith College, and for shorter periods at the University of Oregon, Middle- bury, Tufts, and the University of Massachusetts. Mr. Bailey first came to the University of Delaware in 1954-55 and returned in 1956 until the present. Mr. Bailey is author, co-author or editor of six books, including three textbooks, a cookbook and a collection of outdoor writings. His latest book is Harry Fletcher Brown, a biography, written in collaboration with President John A. Perkins. Mr. Bailey also served as Associate Editor of Field and Stream magazine from 1946 to 1949. He is also the author of articles, stories, and poems for magazines and newspapers. Mr. Bailey is married to the former Hester Fay and has six children including twin boys. He has three grandchildren. At the University of Delaware Mr. Bailey teaches part-time and is part-time affiliated with the Office of the President as a writer and editor. Many of the attractive brochures published by the University have had the assistance of Mr. Bailey.
