RE PECT, F DEDIC TE TO YOU Albert E. Xfvilugll, professor of Economics and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences was born in Amherst, Nlass., where his father Frank E. VVaugh was head of the Horticultural department at the University of 1VIassachusetts for more than forty years. hir. X'Vaugh received the HS. degree at hiassaehusetts State College, now the University of Nlassachusetts, in 192-l-, and the NLS. degree from Connecticut Agri- cultural College, now the University of Connecticut, in 1926. He has done graduate study at the University of Chicago and Columbia Unive1'sity. He became an instructor in agricultural economics at Storrs in 1924, assistant pro- fessor in 1928, associate professor of economics in 1932, and professor of economics in 1937. He was named dean of the College of Arts and Sciences on Qctober 1, 1945. Professor XVaugh is a member of the American Economic Association, the Ameri- can Statistical Association, the Econometric Society and various other professional sorietiyes. He has been a member of the Connerticut Commission for Revision of Election Laws, and has been appointed to a number of state functions. ln addition to authorship of numerous articles in economics journals, Professor VVaugh is the author of a number of textbooks that are widely used in economic class- rooms throughout the country. Thousands of former University of Connecticut students have studied economics in classes taught by Professor WVaugh and through the years he has continued to be one of the most popular members of the faculty at the University. He is always ready to counsel students on their personal or classroom problems and is known as a sympathetic and understanding teacher. The sight of Professor VVaugh, cane in hand, walking briskly about the campus of the University of Connecticut, is one of the more familiar sights of Storrs and one that students will always remember. The 1948 NUTMEG is dedicated to Professor lVaugh in token of his long service to the University of Connecticut and as a mark of esteem in which he is held by the student body.
