Back Rofw-C. Molloy, j, Bransfield, A. Fisher, XV Dripchak, W. Cook, vech, Coach XVhite. Front Rofw-W. Luehuk, VS McFadden, J. Cud- B ck, D. Jester. eursiitty taslleelflbtallll OPENING THIC SEASON on the right foot with a win over Brown, Coach White started a quintet that was tall, fast, captainless and composed entirely of' underclassmen. The combination clicked and before the Christmas holidays two more wins were chalked up at the expense of Marine and- New Hampshire. Losing their stride after the holidays, the Huskies lost a pair of close contests to a tall and scrappy Coast Guard team, and a single contest to our traditional rivals from Kingston. Tradition was shattered and our precedents were set on February 3, as an overflowing crowd occupied every available inch of space in the Payne Whitney gym, to watch the Connecticut Huskies top the sons of lfli Yale 50-49, by virtue of Willie NIcl'adden's field goal in the last few minutes of play. The Whitemen proceeded to tame the Wildcats from New Hampshire in the latter's own den before drop- ping a close contest to Springfield on the Gymnast's home court. lVIaine came through with a very uncanny one point decision over the travel-Worn Huskies at the end of their long northern trek. I Suddenly snapping back into old form in the Rhody tune up contest the U-Conns drubbed Mass. State 78--f-2. lt was a slightly shocked but pleasantly surprised capacity crowd that jammed Hawley Armory on February 20, to watch the most inspired quintet ever to wear the Blue and VVhite of Connecticut go on the floor and smother the shooting aims from Kingston by the outstanding score of 82-58. Coming back after the half, at which time they held a 33-32 lead, the Huskies opened up with a deadly barrage that just kept panning point after point through the hoops. This exhibition was by far the greatest spectacle ever seen on the floor of the Hawley Armory, as the Whitemcn, passing with machinelike precision and sinking baskets periodically with deadly accuracy just couldn't be matched that night. Three sophomores, Dropo, Mclnadtlen, and Jester led the scoring parade with 29, 20, and I7 points respectively, while Capt. Vin Cuddy and Freshman Wally Luchuck did a superb job of guarding and playing, smashing in the Rbody offensive area. ifqpui adl Fisher, B. Miska- W. D ro p o , IE. 18

aseball USING their new indoor practice cage for the first time, the Christian charges began to round into shape rapidly. After three days on the diamond the Husky nine went down to Kingston to battle it out with the Rhody Rams in their opening encounter of the season. Beck and Dropo were the big guns in the U-Conn attack but the Pale Blue had enough to overcome this and win out 4-3. By a twist of the schedule the Huskies tackled four opponents in the next five days. Opening against Mass. State on Tuesday Gene Kovacs hurled the Christian charges to a 6-2 victory. Dropo and Curren both slammed out triples to lead the 10 hit onslaught. On Wednesday Scussel toed the mound against the Rhody Rams at Storrs in a return encounter. In a game ranked all the way by Light Stickucuk it was finally a seventh inning double by Wink Winzler that drove the winning tally across the plate. Following a one day reprieve the U-Conns returned to the diamond Thursday to slug it out with North- eastern, Dropo and Baldwin each with a single and a double, paved the Way for the 17 hit Blue and White barrage. The Christian charges made it four straight for the week as they shellacked the Cardinals from Wesleyan 16-3. Capitalizing on the 10 hits at the most timely moments the Huskies topped off the afternoon with an eight run splurge. Springeld invaded Storrs on a Husky off day and they went home with an 8-5 decision. Di Laurenzio was the individual star of the way making a double play unassisted as well as collecting a pair of singles. Playing a double hill against Maine the following weekend the U-Conns dropped the opener, the result of a brilliant one hit performance by Ed Tooley. The Christian forces rallied behind the pitching of Ray Scussel to come back and sweep the night cap 6-0. The U-Conn bowed before the Lord Jeffs from Amherst 8-2. Dropo led the Husky offensive- with a resounding winning triple as well as playing a sparkling game behind the plate. In a return encounter at Durham, the Wildcats made it two straight in a 3-I edict. Baldwin and Scussel led the hitting parade with a pair of hits, but on both occasions these men were stranded and allowed to die on the base paths. The next game was a 7-6 decision that was dropped to Northeastern with the score tied at 6-6 in the last of the ninth. The Bos- tonianssqueezed in the winning tally with only one away. The Northeastern game climaxed the sea- son as the annual Commencement Day con- test was rained out. Seven seniors, led by that diminutive slugging fielder, Captain Oz- zie Baldwin, hung up their spikes for the last time. llTlI'CGSlllllUI'IlfEMIl1 lBfHLSlGllJLEllllll Scores Conn. 7 Monson 2 Conn. 10 Cheshire 5 Conn. 4 ' Choate 3 Conn. 0 Springfield 2 Conn. 9 Mercer 2 20
