Back Rofw-C. Molloy, j, Bransfield, A. Fisher, XV Dripchak, W. Cook, vech, Coach XVhite. Front Rofw-W. Luehuk, VS McFadden, J. Cud- B ck, D. Jester. eursiitty taslleelflbtallll OPENING THIC SEASON on the right foot with a win over Brown, Coach White started a quintet that was tall, fast, captainless and composed entirely of' underclassmen. The combination clicked and before the Christmas holidays two more wins were chalked up at the expense of Marine and- New Hampshire. Losing their stride after the holidays, the Huskies lost a pair of close contests to a tall and scrappy Coast Guard team, and a single contest to our traditional rivals from Kingston. Tradition was shattered and our precedents were set on February 3, as an overflowing crowd occupied every available inch of space in the Payne Whitney gym, to watch the Connecticut Huskies top the sons of lfli Yale 50-49, by virtue of Willie NIcl'adden's field goal in the last few minutes of play. The Whitemen proceeded to tame the Wildcats from New Hampshire in the latter's own den before drop- ping a close contest to Springfield on the Gymnast's home court. lVIaine came through with a very uncanny one point decision over the travel-Worn Huskies at the end of their long northern trek. I Suddenly snapping back into old form in the Rhody tune up contest the U-Conns drubbed Mass. State 78--f-2. lt was a slightly shocked but pleasantly surprised capacity crowd that jammed Hawley Armory on February 20, to watch the most inspired quintet ever to wear the Blue and VVhite of Connecticut go on the floor and smother the shooting aims from Kingston by the outstanding score of 82-58. Coming back after the half, at which time they held a 33-32 lead, the Huskies opened up with a deadly barrage that just kept panning point after point through the hoops. This exhibition was by far the greatest spectacle ever seen on the floor of the Hawley Armory, as the Whitemcn, passing with machinelike precision and sinking baskets periodically with deadly accuracy just couldn't be matched that night. Three sophomores, Dropo, Mclnadtlen, and Jester led the scoring parade with 29, 20, and I7 points respectively, while Capt. Vin Cuddy and Freshman Wally Luchuck did a superb job of guarding and playing, smashing in the Rbody offensive area. ifqpui adl Fisher, B. Miska- W. D ro p o , IE. 18

The varsity tennis team completed a not-too-successful season by win- ning four and losing five matches. The Huskies opened victoriously, nosing out Mass. State five to four. Dellafera and Yules swept their matches and then teamed up to take the doubles, giving the team their first win. The Kesselmen dropped the next two matches to lVIaine and Vermont by close but identical scores. The Blue and VVhite then evened it up as they topped the netmen from Clark six to three, with Dellafera, Hyde, and Can- trell as starters. Boston U. and Springfield came through with exceptionally strong teams and topped the Huskies six-three and seven-two respectively. The Blue and VVhite retaliated with a six-three win over Coast Guard, but the cadets took a five-four win the following week in a return match. The Kesselmen closed the season successfully with a seven to two tri- umph over Clark. Dellafera, Roberg, and Kinsick were the U-Conn. stars of the day, easily sweeping their matches. With most of the squad slated to return this season, prospects for a successful campaign are very bright. Kessel Qcoachj, Hyde, Cantrell, Roberg, Dellafera, Yules, Jaffe, Height Kysiak fmgr.J.
