President Newton states belief in keeping abreast of technological developments. Higher education is about to assume a new role in our society. It is about to emerge from an in- stitution that has served a few to an institution that must serve many . . . We cannot afford to turn our backs on those eager to learn ... With these thoughts, Quigg Newton began his first year as president of the University of Colorado. This 46-year-old man, the father of four children, has behind him o successful career as attorney and public servant, vice-president of the Ford Founda- tion, and mayor of the city of Denver. President Newton has based his program of ad- ministration on his interest in building academic programs on institutional, research, and public service levels to keep abreast of the current tech- nological developments. He believes that whatever is best for the State of Colorado is best for the University, and conversely. President Newton is a graduate of Yale Univer- sity. Mrs. Newton graduated from Vossar College. PRESIDENT NEWTON spends many hours at his desk, this year striving for higher state appropriations for University. STATELY MANSION housing President Newton and his family stands out on the Colorado campus as a University Avenue landmark.
