Russ Coleman .. director, Marching Mules Russ Coleman, director of the Marching Mules, is a person that believes entirely in his work, constantly looking for a chance to show the Marching Mules to the public at such events as a parade, a major professional baseball or football game, or just performing at the CMS football games. Since Russ came to CMS in 1963, the Marching Mules have performed eight times on regional or nation-wide television hook-upsg twice at the Kansas City Athletics baseball gamesg twice at the St. Louis Cardinals football gamesg three times at the Kansas City Chiefs football gamesg and once at the NCAA sanctioned Pecan Bowl when the Fighting Mules played the Arkansas State Indians. Under his direct- ion, the Marching Mules have grown from 75 members to 133 members. In 1967, Russ was instrumental in styling and obtaining new dapper looking uniforms for the band which convert from a marching uniform to a tuxedo style for concert performances.
