The new voluntary ROTC program offers freshman male students the option of electing ROTC, physical education, or marching band. The Military Science Department commenced classroom and leadership training under this system with an advanced course enrollment of seventy-three students and a basic course enrollment of one hundred and seventy-two. A new Professor of Military Science, Colonel Donald C. Fox assumed his duties as head of the department on July 1, 1971. Another significant event was the congressional legislation which increased the number of ROTC Scholarships. The Department of Military Science has twenty-four full-time scholarships which ranks them amongst the highest of any department. Students, faculty, and staff continued to offer outstanding support to the Campus Red Cross Blood Program. The Blood Program was again sponsored by the Corps of Cadets, and under their leadership the required number of blood units were collected to achieve the goals. Another highlight of the year was the military formal. Organizations sponsored by ROTC are the Pershing Rifles, Scabbard and Blade, Rifle and Pistol Team, Brigadaires fa girls' auxiliaryj, and Raider Company. ,W-in ,1 ,, . . . w . .af ' . .,,- - .' ,v.,-, . .,- V-W., ,.sfs,.v-,, ',,' ,.-v,,.. v . 1 1 ,, ,,,,.
