Floats and decorations brighten 1970 Homecoming Homecoming 1970 was highlighted by the centennial celebra- tion of CMS. The 100th anniversary theme for Homecoming activities was centered around this concept, with floats and house decorations depicting events dating back to the 19th century. The day began with an alumni coffee from 8 a.m. until noon in the College Union Ballroom, and the parade starting at 9:30 in a light rain. Circling the campus and downtown area, the parade featured 410 area school bands and the Marching Mules. Pre-game activities included a mass band concert at 1:30 p.m. in Vernon Kennedy Stadium. The half-time show featured the Marching lVlules and the newly formed Mulekickers in their first performance. Missouri Secretary of State, James C. Kirk- patrick, crowned Kathy Shearon as the 1970 Centennial Home- coming Queen during half-time ceremonies. Kathy, a senior majoring in Marketing, is also a member of Delta Zeta soror- ity. Beta Sigma Psi fraternity, along with Delta Zeta, spon- sored her in the Homecoming Queen contest. The Mules suffered their first loss in a hard fought game with the North- east Missouri State Bulldogs.
