Outstanding CMS alumnus merits Rhetor dedication Missouri Secretary of State, James C. Kirkpatrick was born ,Iune 15, 1905, in Braymer, Caldwell County, Missouri. He was educated at Northeast High School, Kansas City, Central Missouri State College, Warrensburg CBachelor of Science degreejg and the School of Journalism, University of Missouri. He married ,lessamine Elizabeth Young at Knob Noster, Missouri, August 18, 1927. They have one son, Don, who is now editor and manager of the Windsor Review. Don and his wife, former Annetta Fraley of Wind- sor have two children, Larry and Dee Anne. Secretary Kirkpatrick's life career has been that of a newspaperman, in- terrupted by brief assignments in government and public relations fields. He served as editor on the Warrensburg Daily Star-Journal and the Jefferson City Post-Tribune and Capitol News. Since January 1, 1954-, he has been publisher of the Windsor Review. A former president of the Missouri Press Association, Secretary Kirkpatrick is also past president of the Central Missouri Press Association, and the Democratic Editors of Missouri. Active in civic affairs in every community that has been his residence, he served terms as president of the Chamber of Commerce at Warrensburg and Windsor, first vice-president of the Jef- ferson City Rotary Club and president of the Windsor Lions Club. He served on the Board of Regents of Central Missouri State College twelve years and was president of the Board for ten years. His first assignment in government was Administrative Assistant to Cover- nor Forrest Smith, an experience which gave him an outstanding statewide acquaintance. His first race for state office came in 1960, when he lost the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State. Trying again in 1964, he carried 108 counties and won in the primary, his victory in the general election was by a majority of more than 291,000 votes. Secretary Kirk- patrick has filed for a third term in the coming election. The RHETOR Staff dedicates the 1971 Centennial RHETOR to the Hon- orable James C. Foreword A carriage and a dress with bustles, a Model T and a raccoon coat, a GTO and a mini skirt have all been a part of the scene at Central Missouri State. Even as styles change in cars and dress, so has CMS.
