Foreword Reflecting each part of campus life, the CMS Administration Building towers at the head of the quadrangle. The stately structure has not only witnessed the growth of the campus it oversees, but has become a tradition within itself marble steps warped by wear . . . a noble Gothic entrance . . . twining green ivy which fades and re- lives inside, special leaves signed by the Dean of Women wood-pan- eled administrative offices sched- uling next term's classes IBM computers slashing at grading time typewriters pounding out RHE- TOR and STUDENT deadlines waiting in line at the revenue office hopefully passing hearing and speech test for teacher education pro- gram convo tunes echoing from Hendricks Hall auditorium fire- charred ceiling leaving imprint of a nightmare showcases boasting queen candidates on air sign flashing at KCMW-FM college radio station bake sales on bottom floor providing breakfast breath-taking trek up-up the stairs-to the top. 5 , Zi E li lg ' Q z A Q U O- T za A . , fi Q . s -w4unA6inu.....- ,

Fire ravaged the south end of the second floor of the Administration Building on January 18, 1968. The blaze, discovered at 11:50 p.m., reduced to smoldering ashes the recently remodeled business offices. Also damaged were the outer offices of the President and the Dean of Administration, the sports information office, the secretarial pool, and the mail room. Records which were destroyed were from the previous year, and had already been audited. Heat from the fire, which was thought to be the work of an arsonist, cracked the third-floor classroom Windows. Subsequent smoke damage tainted newly painted ceilings of the third floor. Administrators were forced to temporarily relocate their offices in the College Union, Dockery Hall, and in other parts of the Ad Build- ing. Fire damage has soared to an esti- mated S 1'75,000. 6
