Concert-dance highlights CEMO popularity contest Sponsoring CEMO. the all-school popularity contest. the SGA presented its candidates to the student body at a basketball game. At a concert-sock hop held in Garrison Gymnasium on February 10, Steve Witlcowski, Tau Kappa Epsilon, was chosen as Mr. CEMO, and Chris Roose, Alpha Sigma Alpha, as Miss CEMO of CMS. Bob Gillum. Alpha Kappa Lambda, and Julie Shotwell, Sigma Sigma Sigma, were first runners-up. followed by Lonnie Billard, Lambda Chi Alpha, and Patty Templeton. Sigma Kappa, as second runners-up. Two professional performing groups, The Argyles and The Vogues, were featured at the CEMO dance. an lf' 1 The vogues Mr. CEMO. Steve Witkowski. Tau Kappa Epsilon, joins Chris Ronse. Alpha Sigma Alpha. Miss CEMO. in admiring the winners' plaques they reeeiv ed at the danee, Providing the latest music for the CEMO dance. The Hollywood Argyles began an evening of enjoyment. At two different inter- vals. The Vogues provided a concert with their great vocal tal- ents. including their most popular hits. You're the One. ALPHA PHI OMEGA sponsors 196 UMUC Seventeenth annual LYMUC contest. sponsored by Alpha Phi Umega, fea- tured a new event this year. The first UMUC carnival was held. in which such attractions as pie-throwing contests and kissing booths were sponsored by various campus organizations. The highlight of the evening was the in- troduction by song of the Ugly Man and Beauty Queen candidates. In addition to the carnival, an ice-carving contest was held in which candi- dates chopped on 100-pound blocks of ice: and a car-smashing event was also held. The highlight of the UMUC drive was the semi-formal ball at which the con- test winners were announced. ,lay Bob Estes. Theta Chi. won 1967 Ugliest Man on Campus. and Sudie Spivey. Alpha Sigma Alpha. was crowned 1967 Beauty Queen. The Theta Chi's collected 53.-L21 of a total of 35.516 collect- ed on campus. 22 .fi Rh, -ez: .lay Bob Estes. Famous people visit CM campus throughout '66-96 Throughout the year international figures and entertainers have added memorable highlights to the CMS schedule. To help bring the news fronts of the world to CMS. as well as en- lighten students on current world affairs. such speakers as Moham- mad T. Mehdi ol' Iraq. Farham Shubeilat of Jordon. Avahan Har- mon of Isral. Ibraham El-Ahdab of Lebanon. and Maxwell Taylor addressed campus organizations. General Maxwell Taylor. for example. spoke to a capacity crowd as he emphasized reasons why the l'.S. was in Vietnam and what the LQS. was doing there at the time to obtain the objectives of securing free elections for the South Vietnamese. The world of entertainment posed an interesting contrast to the area of politics and international relations. The Serendipity Singers started the year with an eyening of quick-w'itted and light-hearted entertainment. Half A Sixpencefi a Broadway' musical. was also presented here. To round out the year. The Singing Hoosiers of Indiana Ifnixersity' presented a spectacular performance.
