Years of service personified in Rhetor dedication Throughout the twenty-two years that Irvin L. Peters has served Central Missouri State College. he has earned. many times over. the namefiklr. CMSC. His untiring loyalty to the college can be seen across the campus. His service is felt by students. faculty. and administration alike. even though his position presents activities that sometimes place him behind the scenes. Dean Peters was born at Clarence. Iowa. but he has lived in Warrensburg for almost a quarter of a century. He. his wife. Edna. and his daughter. Patricia. make their home at 701 Clark in Warrensburg. Dean Peters was educated at Cornell College. Iowa: Drake University. B.S.. 1932. IVI.S.. I936: Butler Iiniversityz Iowa State College: and Columbia Lniversity. where he did special study. Dean Peters holds membership in various professional or- ganizations: Phi Delta Kappaz Kappa Delta Pi: National Edu- cation Association: Missouri State Teacheris Association: Central Science Association: State Historical Society of Iowa: Missouri State Historical Society: Adult Education Associa- tion: National Geographic Society: American Association of School Administrators: and the Missouri Association of School Administrators. He is listed in WHO'S WHO IN IOWA: WHO'S WHO IN THE MID-WEST: INTERNA- TIONAL BLUEBOOK: LEADERS IN EDUCATION: WHO'S WHO IN AMERICA: WHO'S WHO IN AMERICAN EDUCATION: WHO'S WHO AND WHY IN MISSOURI: and PRESIDENTS AND DEANS IN AMERICAN COL- LEGES. Dean Peters' position as Dean of Administration presents res- ponsibility for the general business phases of the college pro- gram. for the administration of plant development and maintenance and for all auxiliary enterprises. which include such things as the College Union and dormitory facilities. Dean Peters has a vital interest in every phase of college life and especially in the students. When asked for his advice to college students he replied. As for advice. I really havenit any to give: I can learn more receiving advice from others. I do hope. though. that every CMS student will experience much of the fun. the challenge. and the gratification which I have had in approximately thirty years on college campuses. as a student. in the military. and as a faculty member..- Dedication to a college or university is the most exciting. far-ranging and. I believe. satisfying experience that our so- ciety offers. Dean Peters has given his devotion. a great part of his life. and most of all. his service to Central Missouri State College. It is because of this outstanding service that the 1966-67 RHETOR is proudly and appropriately dedicated to IRVIN L. inter wonderland designed for CMS in snow storm setting with ice frosting ' lc'x 'Y' ,-Q... Tb- ' . Glistening limbs break and glittering houghs bend low under the mid-winter ice and snow. If there is a nature setting that enhances a campus. awes the inhabitants. and inspires an alter-impression. the snow storm with an ice frosting must be that setting. Fol- lowing a blowing snow storm around CMS. an ice cover- ing calmed but magnified the snow spectacle. Original landscaping of the campus intensified. Flora. edilices. enclosures increased in dimension. shade. effect. In a new perspective. physical characteristics with a covering created unsuspected grandeur. Upon stepping out into a white. glimmering world. stu- dents' awe characterized universal wonderment. Indi- viduals on campus. however. saw a familiar scene in fan- tasy and gazed in marvel. An everyday environment metamorphosed into a rare winter stage for college life and action. Only pictures of the wonderland physically remain. but in visions of students there remain vivid remembrances of the phantasm. To each student, this reoccurrent im- age may he different. but surely it does reoccur.
