FIRST PRINCESS Carmen Wendleton - Tau Kappa Epsilon SECOND PRINCESS Sandra Hawkins Sigma Kappa Campus beauties compete for coveted queen title Twelve women vied for the title RHETOR Queen in the annual RHETOR contest sponsored by SGA. On the afternoon of February 26, each contestant had a personal interview with the three judges, and that evening they attended a dinner where they extemporarily answered a light question and a more seri- ous one. In both judging events, the women were judged on beauty, good grooming, social competence including manners, personality, voice, poise, and physical grace: and general con- versation. On March 12 at the RHETOR Ball, ,lean Young, sponsored by Alpha Gamma Delta, was crowned the 1966 RHETQR Queen, and her attendants were Carmen Wendleton, first princess, and Sandra Hawkins, second princess, sponsored by Tau Kappa Epsilon and Sigma Kappa, respectively. UMUC campai n collects 10,000 to Vie for top rank An estimated 5510.000 was donated to the 1966 March of Dimes by collections and campaigns during CNlS's annual UMUC Campaign. X Bidding for first place in national campus contributions, CMS ranked 1- second to the University of California at Berkeley last year with 356212.20 against Berkeley's 331700. The 1966 CHS fraternity efforts surpassed the Berkeley figure as the Creeks collected 341843. Theta Chi social fraternity. alone collected 356,218.15 to win the Ugly Man on Campus award for the 15th consec- utive year. Last year Theta Chi received national recognition as the top campus organization in the nation with a contribution of 335,000.14 Highlighting the UMUC dance, .lim Kendall, Theta Chi, was pro- claimed Ugly Man on Campus: he received the Ugly Man on Campus Key and the UMUC plaque along with the March of Dimes traveling trophy for his fraternity. Sandra Class, Delta Zeta, was crowned Beauty Queen by President Warren C. Lovinger. and given the Beauty Queen plaque. Various collection activities included: toll roads, sorority bread sale, and blanket-bearing. coin-catchers at home basketball games.
