Diagrams on the blackboard always clarified drafting problems. 'aperhaps all our sentiments can best be summarized in the name the hill-folk in the Great Smokies have for a blue flower which bursts into sudden and profuse bloom. l don't know it's botanical name, but the mountaineers picturesquely call it 'Hearts a burstin' with pride and joyf This describes our feeling as we share with you the glories of an illustrious career. L'Noel Crinstead- master teacher, democratic leader, clear- headed thinker, Missouri gentleman-for what you mean to us and our college -our love and respect cause us to have ghearts burstin' with pride and joyf And because of this same 'pride and joy,' the RHETOR Staff dedicates the 1965-66 RHETOR to you, Noel B. Grinstead.

Professor Grinstead's service to CMS merits Rhetor dedication With his 44-year teaching career at Central Missouri State Col- lege in the past, Noel B. Grinstead resigned as chairman of the division of applied arts and sciences. In the future, his effectual. loyal, and outstanding service to the college will never be forgot- ten or overlooked. Professor Crinstead was born at Leeton, Missouri, and has lived most of his life in Johnson County. He, his wife, Berne, and their daughter, Mary Jo, now make their home on a farm south of Warrensburg. Professor Crinstead received his B. in Education from CMS and his M. A. from Ohio State University. He did additional study at Bradley Polytechnic lnstitute, Ohio State University, Univer- sity of Missouri, and Colorado A. and M. College. Professor Crinstead holds membership in various profes- sional organizations, National Education Association, American lndustrial Arts Association, Missouri lndustrial Educational Association, American Vocational Associa- tion: Missouri Vocational Association, National Association of lndustrial Teacher Educators: Missouri Association of Industrial Teacher Ffducatorsg Nlississippi Valley Industrial Arts Association, and Phi Delta Kappa. ln 1963, Phi Delta Kappa awarded him a plaque honoring him as an outstand- ing educator. ln 1959, the Board of Regents honored him by naming a 351,000,000 building the Noel B. Crinstead Hall which houses the applied arts and science division. Known to speak softly and display warm graciousness, Professor Grinstead developed a keen wit in his classroom. And he desired and demanded good work from his stu- dents. Widely known and respected as an educator, he influenced the lives of many students. Since 1922, he has kept an up-to-date record of where his graduates are and what they are doing. Perhaps all of this is best illustrated in a tribute given by Dr. D. W. Tieszen, dean ofinstruction at CMS. 'gln Homer's Odyssey there is a line which reads: 'There is no greater glory than that which a man wins with his own hands and feetf mln the forty-four years that you, Noel Grinstead, walked on this campus as an active faculty member your steps helped pace the development of this college, and your head and hands helped shape its course. There is no greater glory than the respect and admiration you won from your col- leagues and your students. uit would not only be unfair but impossible to summarize those 44 years in a few words. But it must give you keen satisfaction to realize that from a small industrial arts de- partment in 1921 you created one of the most outstanding departments in the nation. It must make you proud indeed to know that hundreds of your graduates have attained recognition in their field, and that to be known as one of Noel Grinsteadis graduates is considered to be a top recom- mendation. Professor Crinstead meets with a portion of his staff. 6
