Qlumni HISTORY OF THE FIRST GRADUATING CLASS N THE fifth annual catalogue of the South Missouri State Normal School, located at Warrensburg, Johnson county, for the scholastic year 1875-76 we find enrolled the names of the first class that received diplomas from this institution. This class was composed of five girls and three boys, and graduated in june, 1875, at the expiration of a three-years administration of President james L. johonnot, an eminent educator and author. All followed the pedagogue's path for a time and with the exception of Mr. Ford Byersdorf, who died in the spring of 1911, all are faithfully serving God and humanity today in their own places. Three are now in Missouri and one is in Oklahoma. Another recently moved to San Francisco, while one has for years taught music in Tacoma. And last, but not least in worth, is one, to be found in the old city of Baltimore, Mary A. Worley, who has been an invalid for thirty-eight years. Her very presence is a benediction, and the memory of one day spent at her bedside remains with the writer of these lines, as that of a low sweet psalm sung on quiet waters at eventide. -Virginia Gilkeson Hedges.
