if Oo Our Service Tlag Stars of gold, your luster shines From many a flag today You stand for the men who stood in the lines, Whose blood in their veins, flowed red as the Of French land, where they lay. Stars of gold in the days now gone VVe knew you in these halls, Your honest, keen eyes, your heart so strong, Ambitious, hopeful, and hating the wrong, You answered your country's call. Stars of gold, stars of blue, Your efforts are not in vain, The wide world sings the song of the true, The will to dare, the courage to do. Your loss has been its gain. Flag of blue with golden space, There's a message in every fold, The yoke is heavy, but. we take your place, To free the world, and better the race, Your comrades, Blue and Gold. -Newkirle. wines fl

Qlumni HISTORY OF THE FIRST GRADUATING CLASS N THE fifth annual catalogue of the South Missouri State Normal School, located at Warrensburg, Johnson county, for the scholastic year 1875-76 we find enrolled the names of the first class that received diplomas from this institution. This class was composed of five girls and three boys, and graduated in june, 1875, at the expiration of a three-years administration of President james L. johonnot, an eminent educator and author. All followed the pedagogue's path for a time and with the exception of Mr. Ford Byersdorf, who died in the spring of 1911, all are faithfully serving God and humanity today in their own places. Three are now in Missouri and one is in Oklahoma. Another recently moved to San Francisco, while one has for years taught music in Tacoma. And last, but not least in worth, is one, to be found in the old city of Baltimore, Mary A. Worley, who has been an invalid for thirty-eight years. Her very presence is a benediction, and the memory of one day spent at her bedside remains with the writer of these lines, as that of a low sweet psalm sung on quiet waters at eventide. -Virginia Gilkeson Hedges.
