HIS CLASS UF '23 has the honor of being the first to go from Santa Barbara State Col- ' 7 lege as a baccalaureate degree-granting in- stitution. lileven of the graduates of this year ' will share in this great privilege bestowed upon the col- lege, the remainder receiving secondary certificates in Home Economics, Community lllechanics, llflusic and Art. ' This has been the second honor bestowed upon the institution within a short time, the first being the grant- - ing of the status of State College last year. Therefore, this class should feel doubly proudg first, for having sat- isfactorily completed two or more years of wo1'k at an institution of such high standingg and secondly, of being the first rc receive degrees from the Santa Barbara State College. N The members of this class have taken a prominent part in the activities of the college, and have devoted 1 ! themselves unfalteringly to its welfare. Fred Nlarcellus, . Howard Ahlf, as treasurer has also given his untiring efforts in its behalf. Robert Alimstmlllly fAug.J '23, recently elected publicity manager, also acted as manager of the Student Council, and is well known and liked by all as proprietor of the Stu- depts' Co-op Store. Jack Lenfest, graduating in February, served well as Pub- llclfb' Manager before him and was also a hard-fighting player on the football and basketball teams. The Senior class was also represented on the football field by Howard Ahlf, who played a very good game and was one of the main supports of the line. The Home Economics organization had as its president, Ruth Anderson, Who will receive her degree in August, Dorothy Gurley, as Secretary, and Florence Rathbun, as Treasurer, both of whom graduate in June with degrees. 3 The Senior Class organized early in the school year, electing Ralph DeBolt as lresident, and Ruth Anderson as Secretary-Treasurer, and with Mr. W. W. Peters IIS Faculty Sponsor. Several business meetings were held during the year, and the Urilfllnization took an active part in the send-off rally for the football team when lcilvmll for the game at Bakersfield. ln the Student Friendship Drive, the seniors contributed without exception, giving more per capita than any other class. , AS the first class to finish a four-year course attthis institution as a full-Hedged Cflllvge, the class of '23 has established a precedent by petitioning the faculty to honor seniors by granting those with proper standing the privilege of graduating without examinations, as is traditional with other Colleges. mm gill!
