IIIIIIIIIIIIlllllllllllllllllIlllllllIIllllllllllllIIIllllllllllllllllllllIllIIIIIIIIIllIIIIIIIIllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllIIllIllllllIIIIUIIIllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKIIIIIIIIIIIIIKIIIIIIIIIIIIII g D A lDorc1 From The President NOTHER year in the life of the College has spread itself out for record in the history book of the institution. Many things of interest and sig- nificance have happened, the most obvious of which can be chronicled in print and displayed in pictures. But the matters of greatest importance are found in friendship, in co-operation, and in right spirit. And these are difficult to display. It is only in experiencing them that they are realized and appreciated. But those of the faculty who attend frequent reunions of the Alumni are permitted to obtain glimpses of friendships and pleasant social relationships which have be- come more and more precious as the years have passed, and turning their minds b11Ck to the Campus, they can realize what the social contact here means and what it Carries forward into after-college life. ' In a specific way this year has had its triumphs. The enrollment of 622 stu- dents registers the largest attendance ever recorded in the history of the institution. lhe faculty for the first time is about equally divided between men and women, while the ratio in the student body is still about two to one in favor of the women. The ideal will be reached when the sexes are practically evenly divided. New situations have been developed by the degree courses and a goodly number of stu- dents in upper division work, with quite a group coming up for degrees at the end Of this college year. Our greatest pride may well be in these developments and in these students who will be the first representatives of the institution going forth bearing the degree stamp of the College. A weighty responsibility is theirs, as they well know. In athletics, achievements have been wrought of which the College may be proud. The demonstration has been rather complete in its showing of valine in good clean sports when coupled with the proper scholarly habits. The two to- Ilether and in proper relationship make the ideal educational situation. Looking forward, it may be expected that the college will continue to grow in importance and in numbers to the limit of its capacity. It may also be expected that the family spirit long recognized among facultyiand students as the most priceless heritage of the institution will continue to be nurtured and preserved. Cer- tain branches or divisions, however, may be expected to find their place as the group increases in number. A development along this line is already under way. Two honor societies of national scope and of recognized standing are in process of devel- opment. These again should tend to strengthen the bonds that tie and hold after college days are over. Other good things have been discussed but have not yet ma- terialized. But at any rate this year has set a pace for those that are to come.
