The Madrigals sang tor civic groups as well GS for the campus programs. They were featured especially at the Christmas Concert. The Fine Arts Commission, a division ot ASUCR, spon- sored a series of contests in the tive divisions of fine arts: drama, music, literature, modern dance, and art. Each ot the winners in the contests received a plaque with his name engraved. Pictured below are: Nora Josephson, for music, Joyce Corbett, tor art, and Andrea McVey, Nan Evans, and Eddis Fleischman, contestants tor the modern dance award. Not shown is Mary Scott tor literature. The concert, held in Landis Auditorium, was viewed by a near capacity crowd that gave an enthusiastic response. To round out the education of the UCR student, certain celebrities made their appearances on campus. They were varied, ranging from poet and fol ksinger to newscaster, and from the light and humorous to vital and crucial. Folk singer Sam Hinton sings be- fore a large crowd at Watkins House.
