Picnic Day T HAS OFTEN been quoted that the farmers are the backbone of the nation. It has also been quoted that the prosperity of the nation depends upon the prosperity of its farmers. Food a nation must always have. It is the farmers Who supply the materials for this food. In order to extract a maximum amount of products from the soil, Whether animal or vegetable, one must have the proper knowledge. There are many young men at the Farm studying the methods evolved from the experiences of many farmers and specialists in agri- cultural lines. Parallel with this they have the opportunity to put into practice these methods, because of the excellent facilities in the livestock, orchard mechanical, purely agricultural and many other lines of en- deavor that have generously been furnished by the people of the State. 0111' Picnic Day has come to be recognized as one of the big days of the year for the agricultural public. We have had in the past from ten to fifteen thousand visitors on that day. This year we hope to reach the climax of our endeavors, and give the farmers of our great State, and all others interested in agricultural achievement, an opportunity to View this institution, the University Farm, and see for themselves the progress it has Inade up to the present time, as well as the preparations for future expans1on, On this, our Picnic Day, we not only afford the people a View of What we are doing, but we earnestly hope it Will be a day on Which they may come and offer suggestions that Will bring us in a still closer relationship w1th those who actually till the soil. 112 l .
