The late President John F. Kennedy was the principal speaker at Charter Day Ceremonies in 1962. On that occasion, he made several observations about knowledge and education which have since become classic of his philosophy. President Kennedy said to the Charter Day audience: We may be proud as a nation of our record in scientific at the same time we must be impressed by an understanding of the interdependence of all knowledge. I am certain that every scholar and scientist present today would agree that his own work has benefited from the work of men and women in other countries . . . cooperation in the pursuit of knowledge can hopefully lead to in the pursuit of peace.
