FALL MEANS FOOTBALL AT CAL THIS FALL SEE THEM ALL TEXAS WASHINGTON USC AIR FORCE KANSAS STANFORD ATHLETIC CARD JUST 10.00 Registration Various descriptions for the registration line voiced by entering freshmen were that they felt like a herd of cattle or like rats in a maze . . . not unusual reaction to the frightening trail of pamphlets and IBM cards that one must follow in order to become registered at Cal. hit an all-time high this fall with 23,713 students . . . and of course, you never can tell how many freshmen are still wandering around the gymnasium looking for to take that last IBM card. No standing in line for leaflets. $7.50 is peanuts ! Oh, my feet! We made it !! Get your practice for RBR !

Dedicated to Oski Oski originated in 1941 when Bill Rockwell, a student, drew a cartoon for the Daily Californian to symbolize spirit. The cheerful bear ' s head that Bill depicted seemed so appropriate that a paper mache model was made. So . . . for 20 years a happy little bear has represented the spirit of California. Cavorting gaily and being generally obnoxious, he lends his to games and rallies and often travels with the team to encourage rooters to yell their loudest. On your twentieth anniversary, Oski, we dedicate the 1962 edition of the Blue and Gold to you, our sturdy Golden Bear. FIGHT FOR CALIFORNIA Our sturdy Golden Bear Is watching from the skies, Looks down upon our colors fair, And guards us from his lair, Our banner Gold and Blue, The symbol on it too, Means fight for California, For California through and through. Stalwarts girded for the fray, Will strive for victory, Their all at Master ' s feet will lay, That brain and brawn will win the day. Our mighty sons and true, Will strive for us anew, And fight for California, For California, through and through.

President ' s Reception ASUC President, Brian Van Camp, greets new student. RECEIVING LINE — Left to Right: Mrs. Edward Strong, Chancellor Strong, Mrs. Clark Kerr, President Kerr, Brian Van Camp. Included in the registration envelopes of the bewildered new students were personal invitations to the President ' s and Chancellor ' s A traditional event, it was held for the first time in the new Student Union. About 4000 students attended and were introduced to President and Mrs. Kerr and Chancellor and Mrs. Strong and then danced to the music of Ray Hackett ' s orchestra. Other activities free bowling, a quartet in the Bear ' s Lair, folk singing on the terrace, and movies in the Heller Lounge. About 4000 new students danced to Ray Hackett ' s Orchestra in the Pauley Ballroom.
