cad 4 THE progress of the University of California in the various fields of education is due largely to the farsighted policies of the Board of Regents. Into the hands of this body of men an d women, known for their qualities of leadership, are laid the responsibilities of finance, administration of business affairs, the establishment of the educa- tional policy, and now with the end of the war, the housing problem has been added to these previous duties. The Board of Regents have been instrumental in the drawing up of a $60,000,000 bill that will provide appropriations for the eight major divisions of the University. This bill will enable the University to complete the library stacks, and build additions to the Chemistry, Jurisprudence, and Forestry departments on the campus. The hous- ing shortage will be alleviated by funds provided for the building of several dormitories. Added to this bill before the Legislature will he another proposal of long range qualities, the two of which will make the campus the scene of extensive building activities in the near future.
