Dr. Small is a cum laude graduafe of fhe College of 'rhe Cify of New York and was firsf in his class af Cornell Universify Medical College. He is a diplomafe of fhe American Board of Psychiafry and Neurology, a Fellow of fhe New Yorl: Academy of S. Mouctum' SMALL B.S-, MD. Medicine, of fhe American Medical Associafion and of fhe American Psychiafric Associafion. A prolific aufhor and researcher, Dr. Small has found 'rime fo be Direcfor of Psychiafry af fhe E. J. Meyer Me- morial Hospifal since I95l: in I96l he assumed a similar posifion af fhe Buffalo General Hospifal, For whaf he has done for fhe Deparfmenf of Psychiafry, for fhe Medical School and fhe cify of Buffalo in general and for fhis class in parficular, fhe Medical graduafes of l962 are mosf grafeful fo Dr. S. New and full-'rime facully have been insliluled, lwo new clinics have opened, clinic and laboralory hours have been increased, world renowned clinicians and research- ers have frequenfly been inviled 'ro speak, coming from lhis counlry, Europe, Auslralia, Japan, and 'lhe Armed Services, new research granls have been made available. Bul' by far lhe grea+es+ conlribufion of Dr. English +o +he Senior Class has been lhe new spirii which he has broughl wilh him. He has shown us +he imporlance of doing lhe whole iob of academic and clinical s+udy in earning ihe degree and accolade of Doclor. He has spurred many of us inlo beginning and conlinuing orig- inal basic research. His office door is always open lo our JAMES A. ENGLISH B.S., D.D.S., NLS.. Pu.D. problems, faking fhe lime, in his busy schedule, lo learn our views, and 'lo become well acquainled individually. By genuine lesson and example he has shown +ha'l nolh- ing less +han excellence mus+ always be in our academic siudy, clinical accomplishmenf, and fu+ure praclice. Dr. English received his B.S. from Pennsylvania Slale College, D.D.S. wi'l'h firsl honors from +he Universify of Pennsylvania, M.S. from fhe Graduale School of +he same universily, and Ph.D. from John Hopkins Universily. He is +he aulhor of more +han a score of publicalions and is currenlly Presidenl of lhe ln+erna+ional Associalion of Denlal Research. His dislinguished career in 'lhe Denial Corps, Uniled S+al'es Navy, from which he refired wi+h 'lhe rank of Cap+ain in l96l, has given him a world-wide repu+a+ion.
