S. Nu, we tound that things were not as uncompli- cated as they might have been, but yet the year slipped by with surprising quickness. Looking back we can num- ber among our accomplishments the partial redecora- tion ot the great, green hulk which sheltered some tive ot us, the purchase ot a new retrigerator, the establishment ot a library, the tirst halting steps toward repaying our alumni tor our house, and the eradication ot the major portion ot our rather gruesome debt to the national or- ganization. We continued the successtul precedents set last year with our preceptor program and the sophomore clinics. The social calendar included a number ot notably suc- cessful rushing parties in the tall - marked frequently by the presence ot various and sundry stag student nurses - and culminated by our Wive's Club banquet, held again at the home ot our very gracious host, Dr. Clyde Randall. We also had our complement ot holiday parties, our initiation Dinner with the alumni, and our traditional Spring Dinner Dance which was held this year at the Saturn Club. The social season was climaxed by our second annual alumni open house party on Mother's Day. The year was marked by a tew less pleasant events - our cellar sprang leaks at most uncanny times, the plaster tell in distressingly large chunks trom the walls ot our living room and as usual, apathy was malignant among altogether too many ot the members - particularly the elder, more callous ones. A goodly number however, earned their chocolate and donuts by tolding, stutting, stamping and addressing tor Dr. Vaughan at the.semi- annual trolic in the BGH dining hall. Our rushing season met with considerable success as we garnered eight new sophomores and seventeen tresh- men to swell our ranks to eighty-one. Our new initiates this. year were: Joseph Callanan, Anthony Ferrari, Vin- cent Franz, Harold Geist, Arnold lsraelit, Leroy Leeds. Michael Taylor, David Paa and David Pittman: Sopho- mores. William Bucher, Joseph Cardamone, Joseph Elia, Lance Fogan, James Hagadorn, Ira Hinden, Lawrence Hurwitz, Kenneth Kim, Donald Lewin, Arthur Morris, Deming Payne, Michael Ray, Robert Schuder, Louis Trachtman, Scott Walls and Arthur Yahn: treshmen. The untortunates who were chosen to lead us this year were: President, Jerry Kuhn: Ist Vice President, Charles Adams: 2nd, Stephen Scheiber: Secretary, David Mali- nov: Treasurer, Tony Foti: Custodian, Max Berman: His- torian, Charles Adams: Rushing Chairman, Jim Kavle: and Social Chairman, John Stumpt. The gold keys presented annually to the alumnus and the senior who were adjudged to have contributed the most to the traternity went this year to Dr. Delmer Batcheller and Jerry Kuhns. We teel that our year was a good one and we wish to express our thanks to the local alumni association tor all their aid, both financial and tutorial, and also to our energetic Wives Club tor all the help they have been to us all year.

Some of the long-instituted purposes of this fraternal organization have been to assist in maintaining academic excellence and to broaden the scope of interests in extracurricular activities among the brothers. In addition to fulfilling these maior purposes, Omega Upsilon Phi of Phi Chi has succeeded in providing a pleasurable and rewarding social program. Many of these social events have been conducted at the Chapter House, which quarters members as well as affording a setting for social and intra-fraternal activi- ties. Far from being insular, Phi Chi's activities are wide- spread. The annual Pledge Banquet was held last Decem- ber at the Peter Stuyvesant Hotel, while the Old Post Inn hosted the Initiation Dinner in February. A body of active alumni contribute to chapter events. Omega Upsilon Phi enjoys a great deal of support and guidance, services donated willingly by these men For example, Drs. Longstreth and Giecewicz were both inter- esting and timely in their talks at the Pledge and Initia- tion Banquets respectively. ln addition, house improve- ments have been accomplished through the efforts of ac- tive members as well as by contributions from the alumni. There is a blending of Academic life with 'Fraternal conduct at Phi Chi, instrumentecl by a membership fully aware of its proud tradition. Tradition being what it is, Omega Upsilon Phi has again rewarded its brotherhood with Freshmen members of high merit. The officers for the year l96I-62 were: Joseph R. Gerbasi, Presiding Senior: Joseph R. Herbstritt, Presiding Junior: John J. Stout, Recording Secretary: Joseph F. Painton, Corres- ponding Secretaryg Jason E. Rudisill, Treasurer. l33
