Some of the long-instituted purposes of this fraternal organization have been to assist in maintaining academic excellence and to broaden the scope of interests in extracurricular activities among the brothers. In addition to fulfilling these maior purposes, Omega Upsilon Phi of Phi Chi has succeeded in providing a pleasurable and rewarding social program. Many of these social events have been conducted at the Chapter House, which quarters members as well as affording a setting for social and intra-fraternal activi- ties. Far from being insular, Phi Chi's activities are wide- spread. The annual Pledge Banquet was held last Decem- ber at the Peter Stuyvesant Hotel, while the Old Post Inn hosted the Initiation Dinner in February. A body of active alumni contribute to chapter events. Omega Upsilon Phi enjoys a great deal of support and guidance, services donated willingly by these men For example, Drs. Longstreth and Giecewicz were both inter- esting and timely in their talks at the Pledge and Initia- tion Banquets respectively. ln addition, house improve- ments have been accomplished through the efforts of ac- tive members as well as by contributions from the alumni. There is a blending of Academic life with 'Fraternal conduct at Phi Chi, instrumentecl by a membership fully aware of its proud tradition. Tradition being what it is, Omega Upsilon Phi has again rewarded its brotherhood with Freshmen members of high merit. The officers for the year l96I-62 were: Joseph R. Gerbasi, Presiding Senior: Joseph R. Herbstritt, Presiding Junior: John J. Stout, Recording Secretary: Joseph F. Painton, Corres- ponding Secretaryg Jason E. Rudisill, Treasurer. l33
