ATHLETICS Fourteen teams represent the University on an inter-collegiate level in varsity and freshman football, soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, and track and field. University teams are rapidly emerging into prominence on the national scene with the future bright indeed. The soccer squad is regarded as one of the best in the nation. The baseball squad this season narrowly missed selection to the re- gional NCAA tourney. The gridders posted a winning season, basketball again appears to be on the upswing, with the golf squad always one of the best in the East and track and field de- veloping into a fine winning aggregation. Opponents in one sport or another include such outstanding colleges as Yale, Boston Uni- versity, U. S. Merchant Marine Academy, U. S. Coast Guard, St. John's, The University of Con- necticut, Springfield College, and many other fine institutions of higher learning. 13
