.xx 1 A N lil r W ACADEMIC GROWTH University administrators have set as their goal the emergence of the University of Bridgeport as one of the finest urban universities in the nation. Substantial progress continues to be made in this direction. Significant academic and cultural achievements which have taken place include: development of an outstanding faculty that has the largest number of doctorates and terminal degrees in the history of the Uni- versityg greater participation in research and publication on the part of the faculty than ever beforeg establishment of an irradiation laboratory under a grant from the Atomic Energy Commissiong development of a Computer Centerg creation of a Human Relations Centerg and an In- ternational Center. College Entrance Board examinations are now required of all appli- cantsg Dean's List requirements have been raised and an Honors Program establishedg Arts and Science seniors score better than the national aver- age in College Boards and more than sixty percent of the graduates go on for advanced degreesg Master's degree programs are offered in the College of Education and College of Business Administration with the College of Engineering soon to follow. Prominent individuals are regularly brought to campus in the annual Convocation series, highlighted by the Frank Jacoby Brotherhood lecture and the Foreign Film Festival. Concerts, recitals and lectures are also open to the public as well as the student body.

li E FACILITIES In 1927, the then junior College was housed in one structure on Fairfield Avenue. From this somewhat in- auspicious beginning has grown a University housed in more than fifty buildings on approximately sixty acres of land with a total valuation in excess of I15l7,000,000. The University is now located in a residential area adjacent to municipal Seaside Park and Long Island Sound. Potentially the campus is one of the most beauti- ful in the entire nation. Construction of new facilities is continuing at a rate of approximately 5-2,000,000 per year. Scheduled for completion in September, 1963 is YVarner Hall, an eight- story 151,900,000 residence hall for 400 Women. Com- pletion of a three-story classroom building for the Col- lege of Business Administration with an adjacent Book- store is scheduled for completion in the summer of 1964. An eight-story residence hall for men will be com- pleted in 1965.
