s shots rang out the first day of class in August, students and faculty alike had concerns for what the ensuing year woukd hold. The murder of beloved Porfessor John Locke was an event many found hard to move past as the inevitable continuation of the semester pressed on. Although the healing process took time, the university mourned for Dr. Locke and the semester continued as many wondered what could come nect after the heartbreaking event early in the semester. Then the Razorbacks truly showed the versatility of the human spirit as students, faculty and staff resolved not to let the first days event determine the tone of the year. The 2000-2001 school year began painfully; but just as doubts surfaced about the days to come, they were replaced by feelings of optimism. The year continued with the occasional trauma; but overall, it was a positive two semesters with people focused on thier purpose at the University. The sadness of losing a dear friend was transformed into something that made the University of Arkansas a better place to live and to learn. Lurking behind the tears for Professor Locke were lessons waiting to be taught about literature and also about life. As the days passed, those lessons were learned and in more places than the classroom. 4 (opening -Editor Natalie Anderson
