Claude N. Bud Campbell In Memoriam Claude N. Bud Campbell became synonymous with sports in Arkansas and across the nation during his twenty-plus years in the sportscasting field. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he was a graduate of Louisiana State University. He began his broadcast career in radio in Baton Rouge and later worked for WIND Radio in Chicago. Bud moved to Little Rock in 1954 as sports director for KARK- TV and joined KATV in 1966. At KATV Bud was host of the Frank Broyles Show and Arkansas Scouting Report and was well known for sports features such as the Southwest Conference Tour, Coaches Golf Tournament and Arkansas Traveler Baseball Games. Bud was play-by-play announcer for the Arkansas Foot¬ ball Network and was voted by his peers this past year as Arkan¬ sas Sportscaster of the Year for the ninth time. He was known by all as The Voice of the Razorbacks. In 1968, Bud was selected by ABC as one of their regional football announcers on NCAA Football. He did play-by-play of several Network games, national telecasts, and two pre-season games in pro-football. In 1971, Mr. Campbell was selected as State Chairman for the Arkansas Cancer Society and was very active in other community organizations. This fall Bud Campbell lost his life in a tragic automobile accident in Little Rock. Arkansas Sports and the entire nation have suffered a tremendous loss in the death of Mr. Campbell.
