Governor Of Arkansas Orval E. Faubus Governor Of Arkansas Orval E. Faubus, governor of Arkansas for twelve years, announced this year that he would not seek re-election. An adept politician, he moved into the Governor’s Mansion in 1954. Faubus began his rise to political prominence as post¬ master in his hometown, Huntsville. He was then County Clerk of Madison County, a member of the State Highway Commission, and finally, administrative assistant to the man he succeeded as governor. Faubus has not been a frequent visitor to the campus this year; however, he has continued to show interest in the development of the University. Under his administration, the UofA has embarked on its largest expansion and building program.
