16 STATE OF ARKANSAS OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR LITTLE ROCK WINTHROP ROCKEFELLER GOVERNOR GREETINGS TO STUDENTS AT A. M. N. COLLEGE: Thank you for asking me to participate, through this message, in your 1970 yearbook. The youth of our state is a major interest of mine. One might even say that it is a selfish interest because I am keenly aware that, all too soon, youth is gone and adulthood arrives. Irresponsible, uneducated youths become irresponsible, uneducated adults. I don't want this for Arkansas. That is why I have pledged my administration to the achievement of programs that will build a better Arkansas for our young people to grow up in. The transition from youth to adulthood is a difficult one but I am pleased with the way most of today's youth are meeting the challenges of society. I admire your reaching out for scholastic achievement. I'm happy to see that you wan t to participate and are taking steps to prepare yourself for the future. It is my hope that, as you gain maturity, you will retain your young spirit. As your friend, as well as your governor, let me say this to you...continue to study hard, develop an integrity that can't be compromised and prepare yourself to meet the opportunities of your time in the best ways that you can. You, and our world, will be better for it. With all good wishes, Sincerely, Winthrop Se Governor The Governor The Honorable Winthrop Rockefeller

It is filled with phone calls, conferences, meetings, speaking engagements and hand shakes. It is a life spliced by mountains of papers, frequent interruptions while he is busily working and extensive plan- ning and contemplation for tomorrow’s problems and to- morrow ’s responsibilities. Despite all this, the President still finds time to enjoy his favorite sports, hunting and fishing — which gives him an opportunity to escape the closed atmosphere that he’s usually in, due to his work. Men who stand tall among tall men, men who live and die by principle and whose fight always ends in victory are leaders, such a man is President Lawrence A. Davis.
