In Tribute iG E. Q. BROTHERS 1888-1959 Dean of Little Rock Junwr College, now Little Rock Untversity 1930-1957 The passing of Dean Edmon Q. Broth- ers on December 21, 1959, saddened every- one at Little Rock University. Most of us knew him primarily as the genial manager of the bookstore, who always had a pleasant word for us, even in the midst of registration rush. Some few of us knew him as dean of Little Rock Junior College, the institution close to his heart for twenty-seven years. Re- gardless of how we knew him, we all admired his modesty and his humility, his kindness and his unselfishness. When Dean Brothers came to Little Rock in 1930 he found a small junior college with half a dozen classrooms in the High School and a faculty on a part-time basis. It was partly through his efforts and diligent care that the Little Rock Junior College was nourished until it was ready for expansion into a senior institution. Twice the dean was called on to act as president, and he served well as an adminis- trator and an academician. Wanting to re- tire earlier than the fall of 1957, Dean Brothers remained a year as dean at the re- quest of Dr. Carey Stabler, president, who had just arrived on campus. All of us who knew him can count our- selves as blessed because of his wise and gentle counsel in our days of learning and of grow- ing up.
