Bedell and Sicard joined the seven other Board of Trustees members to form a nucleus of policy making which is ultimately responsible for the operation of the school. One of the most important duties of the Board is to establish the philosophy of Westark, Evidently, growth was included in the trustees' 1975-76 philosophy as construction of a new fine arts building and the remodeling of the existing structure were begun this year as well as the addition of a hothouse to the science building, a new technical wing and a hot food line in the student union and the rebuilding ofa welding shop which was destroyed by fire during the summer. Total cost of the projects was 51.75 million. Each trustee was elected by the voters of Sebastian County to serve a six-year term. All of the trustees were natives of Ft. Smith with the exception of Woodson Holbrook who lived in Mansfield. During his visit to Westark's Vietnamese Education Project at Fort Chaffee, trustee Conaly Bedell pauses to chat with a young Vietnamese boy. fi? .gg . .? F..
