REMEMBERING VACATIONS IS a common student pastime to combat rising pressures. Many students found UA school breaks to be few and far between. THE SHADE OF nearby trees offer w an atmosphere conducive to study- g ing on a warm September after- noon.

THE NEW SCIENCE Building can be seen towering in the background as these students discuss the vaca- tion ' s events between classes. REGISTERING FOR CLASSES is often a stressful event in which it is easy to get lost in the myriad of schedules, forms, and 2 pencils. GETTING SET FOR COLLEGE Expectations of success dominated stu- dents ' thoughts before and during that first month of the semester. Lifestyles from school breaks had to be remodeled to give academia its proper priority. How- ever, despite feelings toward school, the thoughts of renewing and initiating friendships became the common bond for most of us as we tried to start all over again. OPENING

BY MAKING THE call ahead of the referee, this football player shows the energy and emotions that are mirrored by thousands of specta- tors. A JOG IN the clear morning air had a way of putting things into perspec- tive and provided an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the UA campus. STUDENTS SOUGHT SOLITUDE Common experiences and goals were what united us into a strong student body, but all of us were clearly unique, distin- guishing ourselves through our own day- to-day experiences. Long afternoons were often spent try- ing to sort out the resulting confusion. This desire to get away inspired a search for some sort of personal asylum, a place where the vigors of a seemingly eternal day could be transformed into a desire to conquer the next. This battle was fought in our minds and could be inspired by something as simple as walk- ing down the mall on a cold December morning. The life of a student was often very complex and our times alone provided an escape from the demanding world around us. THE SIMPLE DAILY task of locking up a bike is a common element in the lives of students who are other- wise different. OPENING I
