EAN OF MEN A 1921 graduate of the UA, A. Louis Slonaker has served as Dean of Men since 1947. Slonaker began his administrative duties as Alumni Secretary and Graduate Manager in 1922. An active participant in community activities, Slonaker has served as president of the Tucson Kiwanis Club, and was re- cently appointed by Mayor Hummel as a member of the newly formed Human Relations Commission. Dean Slonaker counsels men students, groups, and organi- zations, and represents the UA on official committees. A. LOUIS SLONAKER DEAN OF WOMEN Supervision of the rules and regulations for 4,475 coeds keeps Dean Karen Carlson active throughout the school year. In addition, Miss Carlson counsels individual students, and acts as an advisor to Associated Women Students, Panhellenic Coun- cil, Inter-Dorm Council and the three class honoraries for women. Miss Carlson has served as assistant dean of women at the UA, and was register at North Carolina Women ' s College. She has degrees from Carroll College and Northwestern University. KAREN CARLSON Gathered informally are the assistant deans of the U of A. Mel Erickson, Jean Wilson, Millicent Demmin, and Darold Shutt work to guide the students through proper counseling. ASSISTANT DEANS Assistant Deans Millicent Demmin, Jean Wilson, Melvin Erickson and Darold Shutt share the counseling and advisory duties of Dean Carlson and Dean Slon- aker. The newest member of the Dean of Women ' s staff is Miss Demmin, advisor to sorority presidents. Miss Wilson super- vises women ' s dormitories. Dr. Erickson advises men ' s dormitories and the Student Traffic Court. Dean Shutt is responsible for the activities of the social fraternities on campus. 20
