The vice-president received both his B.S. and M.S. at Arizona in 1923 and 1925 respectively. He completed requirements for a bachelor of arts degree at Oxford and received his Ph.D. from Cornell. The Universityis good- will ambassador, Dr. Nugent visits Arizona high schools and coordinates faculty and student relations. JOHN G. BABBITT President of the Board ROBERT L. NUCENT board of regents Governing the Universityis operations is the ten-member Board of Regents. The two ex-officio niembers, Gov. Howard Pyle and Marion L. Brooks, superintendent of public instruction, and the eight appointive members establish adrninistrative regulations, appoint the faculty and staff, set student tuition, approve courses of instruc- tion and award degrees and diplomas. Six-the dean of women. the rc gistrar, the director of extension services, the Comptroller, the veterans' coordinator. and the head of the business office-have offices in the Administration Building, which this year has expanded to its two new wings. The dean of mens office is in the new BPA building. The agricultural extension service, placement bureau and business and ethnic research divisions have adininistraive officials as directors. The mechanical operation of the University is direct- ed by the superintendent of buildings and grounds and the purchasing agent. One of the first in the nation, UAFs tree-ring laboratory is directed by Dr. Andrew Douglass, founder of the science of dendrochronology-the study of tree rings and their relationship to climate.
