The University of Arizona was created in 1885 by the Arizona territorial legislature and is maintained by funds appropri- ated by the State of Arizona. the United States government. and fees and collections, BY 1890. three of the departments for which the Universih' was provided were organized-the College of Agriculture. the Col- lege of Xlines and Engineering. and the Agricultural Experiment Station-and in 1891 the Uni- versity was open to students. That was not too many years ago, and yet, in just a short time the facilities of the Uni- versity were exnanded, In 1917. Arizona was placed on the ac- credited list of the North Cen- tral Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools as a degree granting institution.
