Klemmedson; John M. Scott; Dr. J. Byron McCormick; Dr. Alfred Atkinson, executive adviser. Standing: Lynn M. Laney; Sam H. Morris, president; William R. Ellsworth; Cleon T. Knapp; Lacey A. Kastburn; and Clarence E. Houston. At the side of President McCormick is Dr. Robert Logan Nugent, who left his position as dean of the college of Liberal Arts to become vice-president of the University of Arizona. His interest lies in the enlargement and future development of academic work. I)r. Nugent’s duties arc to coordinate the work of the university’s departments, the facility, student body and to a large extent the alumni with the president’s office, and he assumes some responsibility in general public relations for the university. President McCormick and Dr. Nugent work hand in hand with the board of regents, which is the governing body of the University of Arizona and the state colleges at Tempe and Flagstaff. THE PRESIDENT Serving his first year as president of the university, Dr. James Byron McCormick has skillfully handled the many problems confronting the administration. With the increasing number of applications for enrollment, President McCormick is striving for expansion of housing facilities and academic improvements. He considers the relations l ctween the university and the public to l c of utmost importance, and he is constantly trying to letter this relationship. With his ability in administrative affairs and his interest in students and faculty alike, he has helped the university to take another step forward in education. Page 8

Veteran coordinator OFFICERS OF ADMINISTRATION The duties of the university’s officers of administration vary, but these officers work together in setting university policies and in maintaining the school’s reputation as an outstanding state university. Administration is divided into a number of committees, one of the most important being the advisory council, composed of President McCormick, the deans of the nine colleges, the dean of men, dean of women and the registrar. Other committees which serve an important purpose include Scholarships and awards, Student activities and eligibility, Student grants and aid, Intercollegiate athletics, and Residence standing.
