UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA, CALGARY OFFICE OF THE PRINCIPAL calgary, Canada January 30, 1964 It is with a sense of deep regret that I write these words for the Yearbook of the University of Alberta, Calgary. As you know, this is the last time that I shall have the privilege and pleasure of speaking to you through these pages. I little thought when I wrote to you a year ago that such would be the case. But as each of you will come to know in the adventure of life, a man must do what he must do. As I look back to my arrival here, when we moved to our new campus, I realize that what now seems to me a very short space of time is actually a long period of some four years. It has seemed much shorter because of the joys of working with students in which Mrs. Taylor has happily shared. I leave this University richer in experience and more blessed in rewards than I have deserved. With you, I have seen this campus develop in intellectual and physical growth to such a stature that we rightfully take our place among the Univer¬ sities of Canada. Mrs. Taylor joins with me in thanking you for the pleasure that we have had in our association with you and in wishing you and this University every measure of success in the years ahead. 8
