O O O The university offers programs of instruction leading to advanced degrees in many areas, some of them vital to Alaska and many of them requiring Alaska as a workshop for research. The program is coordinated by Dr. Minnie E. Wells, and is administered by the graduate faculty, composed of the division chairmen and department heads as well as some university administrative personnel. General policies and procedures for graduate study are formulated by the graduate council pictured at the left. The University of Alaska, because of its unique north- ern location, attracts many graduates of other schools in such fields as mining, engineering, civil engineering, biological science and wildlife management as well as our famous geophysical institute with its study of auroral zone phenomenon and investigation in the ionosphere.
