This emblem, approved by The American DenToI AssociaTion in 1940, is To be considered The insignia of denTisTry and should noT be confused wiTh The official American Denfal Associa- Tion insignia. IT can be used in many insTances where The A. D. A. emblem would be inap- propriafe. As can be seen from The accompanying ilIusTraTion, This design employs as iTs cenTral fig- ure, The single serpenT of Aesculapius, The faTher of medicine - noT The Two serpenfs of Hermes, which have been erroneously used in The pasT. The serpenT is enTvvined abouT an ancieni' Arabian cauTery.
